Registration & Policies

Registrations for classes can be completed via email, over the telephone or in-person. Due to limited available in office time, email registration is preferred. Please contact us for in-person times, dates and locations as they are limited.  All class sizes are limited to provide you with the fun and attention you deserve.  Because classes are limited some will fill very quickly.  We will do our best to update the website as quickly as possible once a class has filled.

To be fair to all, we cannot hold spaces without processing the payment (we can accept email money transfer, credit card over the telephone or PayPal directly on our website) and receiving the registration form.  Avoid disappointment, arrange registration today!  Mobile site users: please click HERE for a copy of our registration form.

General Policies

  • We provide a positive space where everyone is welcome and barriers are removed.  Discrimination, harassment, rude behaviour and other forms of inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.  All persons will be treated with respect and are expected to treat others with respect.

  • All dogs attending group classes must be up to date on Rabies and DHP (distemper, hepatitis, parvo) - core vaccines and parasite free (Puppy class: puppies must have had their first set of vaccinations, seen by a veterinarian, and have been home with you for at least 7 days prior to the first class - puppies also do not normally receive their rabies vaccinations until 16 weeks of age).  Quinte Canine will accept titre test results accompanied by a veterinarian letter in lieu of vaccination certificates.

  • We recommend that your dog be current on flea and tick medications. Other vaccinations and treatment such as Bordetella (kennel cough) and worming should be administered as recommended by your veterinarian.

  • We require that all dogs who come to our facility, not attend public dog parks or other places that do not require vaccines (play groups, daycares and boarding facilities - ones that do not require vaccine proof as this places everyone at risk). Due to the lack of vaccination review from private dog parks and some other places, they can and often are, harboring dangerous and serious diseases and viruses that can make dogs very sick, even be lethal. These viruses and diseases can often be carried by a dog who shows no symptoms. For this reason we do not allow dogs who are coming into our facility to attend dog parks or unvaccinated groups in the weeks leading up to or during attendance. If your dog attends a well run daycare, training, boarding facility or play groups (that require vaccines for all dogs) they can certainly attend classes with us. If your dog enjoys other dogs and you would still like your dog to have play time with others please reach out to us about our young and small dog play dates or for a referral to a well run daycare in your area!

  • Dogs exhibiting diarrhea, vomiting, coughing, sneezing, lethargy, injury or any other medically concerning symptoms must not attend class under any circumstances. Please contact us as quick as possible should your dog exhibit any of these symptoms or other illness while enrolled in classes.

  • Dogs must not exhibit fearful, reactive or aggressive behaviour toward other dogs or people while in group classes.

  • If you have any limitations, please notify us in advance so that we may prepare and be able to accommodate your needs.

  • We encourage you to bring your family/spouse each week to training so everyone can learn how to be consistent and clear with your dog, this will help your dog to learn quickly and more effectively.

  • Each week it is a good idea to arrive a few minutes early to allow your dog a few minutes to relieve him/herself before entering class. Please do not arrive more than 10 minutes early as a class prior to you may still be in session.

  • In the event of severe weather, where holding class would place you at risk, we may cancel classes and extend the end date to ensure you receive your full sessions. A representative of Quinte Canine will contact you, at the information you have provided on your registration form, at minimum 1 hour prior to class beginning to inform you of a cancellation.

  • Please ensure to scoop your poop!  Failure to comply with this policy will be given one warning followed by removal from services.

  • Please do not allow dogs to urinate on any man-made surfaces (stairs, garbage bins, buildings, etc.)

  • All dogs must be leashed and under the care and control of their handler at all times. It is important that you respect the space of other handlers and dogs; therefore, unless otherwise directed by a Quinte Canine Trainer, keep a 15-foot radius at all times.

  • Unless directed by a Quinte Canine Trainer all dog must be leashed at all times while on the premises.

  • Female dogs in heat may be allowed in certain classes at the discretion of the trainer. The dog will be required to wear sanitary pants during class.

  • We are unable to offer refunds (please see group classes policies for refunds policy and cancellation policy for private classes and behaviour modification). We are truly committed to our clients and trust that you understand this policy. We are very transparent about our expectations prior to registration and payment.

  • Client understands that sessions may be photographed and/or video recorded and used for teaching, review, and marketing purposes.

Children & Youth

  • At least one person of 18+ years must be in attendance and in control.  Handlers 16-17 years of age may attend class without their parents, with written permission and advance notice provided they demonstrate maturity.

  • We encourage youth to attend classes but for everyone’s enjoyment please ensure that children (6 years of age and younger) are supervised by a second person you bring to classes

  • Young children can become distracted very easily so we recommend bringing various quiet activities for them to enjoy while learning such as colouring, puzzles or electronic devices – headsets are required.

  • Children must be under parental/guardian supervision at all times throughout the class and must remain with a supervising adult at all times including trips to the restroom or dogs requiring a potty break

  • Absolutely no running or yelling will be permitted. Volume needs to be kept to a minimum to avoid distracting other students or preventing others from hearing the instructor.

  • Since not all dogs are comfortable around children, children should be instructed to never approach or pet any other dog in class.

The above policies are designed to ensure your (and others) enjoyment of your time with Quinte Canine, therefore failure to comply with the above policies may result in immediate removal from services without refund.  If you have any concerns or questions about the above policies please call or email us today to discuss.  Your confidentiality is of upmost importance and your questions and/or concerns will be met without judgement.

Additional Group Class & Workshop Policies

All dogs attending group classes must be up to date on Rabies and DHPP - core vaccines (Puppy class: puppies must have had their first set of vaccinations 7 days prior to the first class).  Quinte Canine will accept titer test results accompanied by a veterinarian letter in lieu of vaccination certificates.  We recommend that your dog be current on flea and tick medications. Other vaccinations and treatment such as Bordetella (kennel cough) and worming should be administered as recommended by your veterinarian.

Payment and Refund Policy:

  • The cost to small businesses for the use of these features such as PayPal and credit cards is very high, please always consider alternatives such as email money transfer or cash

  • Because classes are limited in size, payment is due in order to hold a space in class.  This prevents others from registering the space.  To finalize registration and receive class information details your registration form is due as soon as possible after.

  • Refunds will not be provided within 7 days of the class start date.

  • If a student withdrawals for any reason more than 7 days prior to the class start date a refund of 50% of the class fee may be provided at the discretion of the instructor.

  • If due to emergency situations you are unable to attend class as scheduled, you may take the same class in the future with 50% of your paid class balance going toward that class provided that a reasonable amount of time is provided to replace the held space in class.

  • Missed classes: Please ensure you are prepared to attend all classes scheduled. You will still receive class handout for missed classes but may find it difficult to catch up. In the event you are unable to attend please find an alternative member of the household to attend with your dog who is up to date in the current exercises.  In the event your dog is unable to attend we encourage you to attend without him/her to prevent missing information.  Private one to one make-up sessions (30 minute) are available for $35+HST should you miss a class. If notice is provided we can provide a link to observe the class virtually pending technology issues.

  • If a dog is transferred from one owner to another during or before classes please contact us as soon as possible as this does not automatically transfer the fees and registration.

  • Dogs unsuitable for class: If your dog proves to be unsuitable for a group class, as determined by the instructor, your remaining credit can be transferred toward to private sessions.

  • Classes are limited in size to provide dogs and handlers with maximum learning opportunities. Because they are limited they often fill quickly.  In the very rare case a class does not fill with the minimum number of participants (50%) we may choose to postpone, reschedule or cancel classes. Should this occur, we will provide the option to participants to apply their class registration fee toward the postponed or rescheduled class, an alternative class or provide a full refund.

  • Should the government of Ontario or local health authorities force us to close, our in person group classes switching to a virtual classroom. We use a virtual classroom to 'meet' in a safe way. The class is run live and you are able to see, communicate and see demonstrations in real time. Yvonne is able to watch you and your dog working together to assist, provide feedback and help you learn! You still receive all the class handouts and we are here to support you even outside of class! Classes are fun, interactive and enjoyable; and the best part, your dog can be highly successful with dedicated attention on you. This was a great alternative during the first shut down. We received many emails from students saying how they enjoyed the class so much and felt like they were really able to take the information in well while working with their dogs in a low distraction setting. The best part most are finding through virtual classroom is the fact that a dog can master the skills much faster as the environment is not nearly as distracting!
